What should my plug ship week be?
To calculate your plug ship week, use the Weeks to Finish/Plug Age table on page 12, start with the week before you would like to sell and subtract the Weeks to Finish.
Example: You are selling petunias for Mother’s Day week, which is week 20, in a 512 plug tray which takes 7 weeks to finish. Starting with week 19, the week before your sell week, subtract 7 weeks (19 - 7 = 12) to get week 12 as the ship week you would need to receive your plugs from Wessels’ Farms.
Please Note:
- The ‘Weeks to Finish’ is estimated production time. Your growing conditions will determine actual production time and may vary from what is published in this catalog.
- 144 plugs refer to ‘Plug Age’ because they are used in a multitude of finished products from 4.5” pots to 12” hanging baskets (HB). Use the same calculation to determine your ship week. As in the example above, use the week before your sell week, minus the time it takes to finish the product which will equal the ship week.
How can I be sure to receive my order for the ship week I want?
The chart on the following page can help you to determine the latest possible time you can place an order with Wessels’ Farms and still receive your plugs by the ship week you have determined by using the process above.
The chart represents the time it takes for Wessels to produce a plug from sow to ready for transplant (to be shipped to you). It does not include any lead time associated with order placement, order processing, or obtaining seed from suppliers. Be sure to place your plug order with enough time to allow for the longest plug growing schedule on your order, plus an additional 2 weeks to allow for order processing. Our plug order schedule allows for ample time of the above.
Plug orders are best placed before December 31, 2024. 12 week minimum before delivery is best. Wessels’ Farms will accept orders after the suggested date based on the production information described here.
If an order is received by Wessels’ Farms after the time frame a plug product should be sown, that plug product will have to be shipped separately at a later date at an additional cost to you or the entire order’s ship week must be moved to a later week to allow for production of the ordered plugs.
Example: If we receive an order that ships 5 weeks from the order date and the order includes plugs that take 7 weeks to grow, those plugs will be shipped later than the requested ship week or the whole order can be moved to accommodate the 7 week plugs.
